Dubai creek striders was formed by Malcolm Murphy in September 1995. In those early
days, a small group of runners used to set out every Friday morning from Block B at the
Trade Centre Apartments, on a run which would take them through Satwa, Bur Dubai, through the
Shindagha pedestrian tunnel to the other side of the creek. From there, the route snaked through
the Gold Souk back to the Abra Station on the Deira side of the creek. The Abra ride back across the
creek provided a welcome respite from the harsh Arabian Sun. Once across, the runners headed through
the fabric souk, back streets of Karama and Satwa on their way back to the Trade Centre. En-route back,
Murph paused for a moment at a park bench, which has fondly become known as 'Murphy's bench'. That
particular run became known as the classic, which remains a favourite with some of the original group.
DCS has grown in subsequent years with as many as 50 runners pounding the tarmac on a Friday
morning on various routes in aound Dubai.
